Yes, there is a lot of digital choice. But behind these are real servers that are taking increasing amounts of real power. I turn my PC off at night - but most processors in the world never turn off. There is real scarcity being hidden - probably by some careful accountancy.

Really insightful post I feel, the consumer has more power these days due to having more choice, people aren't restricted to consume only media, services and goods around them but globally. They have a voice that can be heard worldwide, at any time, via Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, etc. and this is something never before possible in the same capacity, due to interactive media.

I think the end result of this will hopefully be companies operating more dilligently, and customers responding to this positively. Nothing will ever be perfect, hopefully customers have a level of understanding here, likewise businesses know that they can and will be held accountable by any individual, that has more power than ever before to share good or bad views based on their own experiences.

'The customer is king' is an old, old saying known to salesmen the world over. Now it really is true. Really. Great post, thank you.

Refreshingly crisp musings that sweeps over a lot of information and change that many of us are still grappling with. The one thing that stands unchanged is that the customer has choice and we the opportunity to delight her, or not!

Some marketers would have us believe that customers don't know what they want because they haven't seen what 'can be' [Apple's line of argument for the longest!]
What do you think?
