This may be the year of platforms but IMO this is secondary to something else. IMO this will be a year of User Experience as *some* of the 'platforms' that you list make a serious play to 'own' the 'end to end' customer technology experience. This means: Apple, Google, Microsoft and a few others. 2010 will (IMO) be about consumer and not enterprise IT but some enterprise players will manouevre well to execute on the opportunities that are being created by this market. Those opportunities include real time communication and collaboration, be it video, chat, phone or 'plain old content'.

Stewardship. Yes. Can someone explain all this to whoever is in charge of digital britain, because a good half of the country can't get access to the cloud. Many have no mobile signal and are still on dial up, which doesn't work half the time because of very long and very old victorian infrastructure. The brave new world isn't here yet. thanks.

JP,

Great post. Very insightful. One interesting fact you brought up is 'trust by association'. I trust Facebook because my friends are on Facebook. Can it be potentially exploited for creating ‘p2p trust platform’ which can be used for transactions like ecommerce. Ebay today uses seller rating system for its consumption i.e. for ebay site only. But perhaps some day it will allow it to become a platform which the sellers can use to prove their 'trustability' while selling anywhere….or perhaps someone will create a wiki like rating platform which can be leveraged in any transaction which requires ‘trust factor’. Thanks again and have a great year ahead.

Best Regards
