nostalgia indeed! i got my first “compact cassette” of Jim's album “photographs and memories” in 1974 (i was 15 then) from an uncle coming back to Dhaka from the US. reading your piece took me back. Thank you JP for this wonderful “time in a bottle”.

What a wonderfully written post. I have been away from your site for a few months, and am just getting caught up…
Just the other day I was thinking about the music that was so important in my teens, that I had somehow neglected to share with my children. Jim Croce sprang to mind. When I mentioned it to my wife she reminded me “that was the very first gift I gave you!”.
We celebrate our 30th soon.

A friend played some of his songs to me back inthe 70s – probably a year or two after he died. I can still remember some of the tunes and lyrics. Very understated but powerful.

Great! I was at Croce’s bar last july (2009) in San Diego, and met Croce’s wife. She was busy and we didn’t have much of a conversation, but I’m sure when you’ll go there, if you can stay until late evening, she would gladily spend some time with you.
It’s a great place with great music. Food, to be honest, was not that great… But you don’t go there for the food itself :)
