The Friday Question: 6 July 2012

[Almost caught up, should be back on track by next week].

Usual rules. Use whatever you like to find the answer. My job is to keep the subjects adequately varied and to ensure that the answer is not readily Googleable.

What do the following have in common?

  • The Virgin Mary
  • Jane Seymour
  • Madeline Usher
  • Patti D’Arbanville

Have fun.

Moreover, they’re all Ladies. Our Lady, Lady Jane Seymour, Lady Madeline of the House of Usher, Lady D’Arbanville

Stephanie, Lloyd, I agree with you. But no cigar. Not what I need.

they have all been the subject of songs

You guys have the answer between you, a classic case of crowdsourced answering. Yes they are women. Yes they are Ladies. Yes they have been the subjects of songs. Combine those answers together and you have what I was looking for.

They were all the subjects of hippie-era songs starting with the word Lady: The Beatles’ Lady Madonna (the Virgin Mary) The Stones’ Lady Jane (Jane Seymour) Lindisfarne’s Lady Eleanor (Madeline Usher) and Cat Stevens’ Lady d’Arbanville (Patti d’Arbanville)
